Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) certified DOT physical examinations performed by National Registry-listed medical examiners. Get your CDL medical certificate quickly and conveniently.
A DOT physical is a standardized medical examination required by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration for all commercial motor vehicle operators. At Hybrid Health Systems, our FMCSA-certified medical examiners conduct thorough evaluations designed to confirm that drivers can safely operate commercial vehicles.
The DOT physical examination covers the following areas:
Note that the DOT physical urinalysis is a health screening, not a drug test. Drug and alcohol testing is a separate process governed by different regulations.
Federal law requires a valid DOT medical certificate for anyone who operates a commercial motor vehicle in interstate or intrastate commerce. This requirement applies broadly across several categories of drivers and vehicle operators.
Individuals who need a DOT physical include:
DOT medical certificates are valid for up to 24 months, though certain health conditions may result in a shorter certification period. Drivers with well-managed conditions like controlled hypertension may receive a one-year certificate with annual recertification requirements.
Arriving prepared for your DOT physical helps the process go smoothly and reduces the chances of delays or incomplete examinations. Here is what we recommend you bring to your appointment:
Results are typically available the same day. Upon passing, you will receive your Medical Examiner's Certificate (MEC), which serves as your proof of DOT physical compliance. Our examiners are listed on the FMCSA National Registry, ensuring your certificate is recognized nationwide. Walk-ins are welcome at all Hybrid Health Systems locations, and no employer referral is required.
A typical DOT physical examination takes approximately 30 to 45 minutes. If additional documentation review is needed for specific medical conditions, the process may take slightly longer. Most patients receive their certificate during the same visit.
Standard DOT medical certificates are valid for 24 months. However, if you have certain health conditions such as high blood pressure requiring medication, your examiner may issue a certificate valid for 12 months or less, requiring more frequent recertification.
If you do not meet certification requirements, our examiner will explain exactly which criteria were not met and what steps you can take. In many cases, obtaining additional documentation from your treating physician or addressing a specific health metric can allow recertification at a follow-up visit.
Walk-ins are welcome during regular business hours at all Hybrid Health Systems locations. However, scheduling an appointment can minimize your wait time, especially during peak periods. Call your preferred location or request a visit online.
No. The urinalysis performed during a DOT physical is a health screening that checks for conditions like diabetes and kidney disease. DOT-mandated drug testing is a completely separate process with its own protocols and chain-of-custody requirements.
Call ahead or send a visit request through your clinic’s location page — walk-ins are welcome during regular hours.
